Just a quick summary of the traffic for the last couple weeks.

Traffic trend has been upwards, and the most viewed pages on the site are state pages. The page for okemo is actually the #8 most viewed page on the site in the last month. Other popular pages are new hampshire, vermont, the GEOSAP software page (really good to see) and the NY state page. Traffic is steady with about 60-70 pageviews per day. Not bad for a largely unpromoted site.

I talked to LaurieP on Snowjournal, teachski is her site. She gave us permission to use her images as long as a credit is given. She also wants us to contact her if the image is credited to someone else. I'll place a blanket credit on the homepage and do my best to update credits on the images themselves. Easier to do now rather than later when there are a lot more of them.

I edited the site theme so the area pages are all table layouts now. I have to go through to each area page and reenter all the info. I'll get around to that this afternoon/tonight. Example it the Mount Southington page.

the reason I chose flickr is because wikidot already has a module in place to support a flickr gallery. Obviously it's not foolproof (the overlap onto the sidebar is one problem), but it was the easiest to set up. Flickr does allow geotagging with location, and it's built upon GE, so I assume elevation would be easy enough. I'll look into the geotagging through flickr and see if there is a way to collect all of the geotag locations for images with a certian tag. That's the way the image galleries work right now. They look through flickr for all of the images tagged with "geosap" and "the area name". The one problem with geotagging is that we'd have to find a way to collect all the geosap images into one place that would display on GE.

Is there a way to make the left pane stay "unfolded" when you go to an area page? It would be a nice alternative to hitting "back" to return, especially when you're doing some of the editing actions (such as uploading a file) that give you an error message when you hit "back."

I definitely like the idea of pictures. Given the focus of the site, I think the coolest thing would be if we could geotag them such that they would show up in GE and you could click on them to view from within GE. Especially cool if geotagging can contain attitude data as well (azimuth/elevation/clocking angles). Any chance that picasa would offer more connectivity to GE given their affiliation?

just an update, i looked into this real quick, created a flickr account, and started uploading images. I quickly ran into the 3-set limit for not-pro users. A pro-membership is $24.95 per year, which is a bit steep. I'm gonna look into other ways of organizing it and maybe sorting by tags. Check out the Ragged Mountain and Loon Mountain pages for an example of the picture implementation.

What would you think of having a small gallery of images for each area that gets mapped? I'll try and work that into a copy of the template and see how it looks, but I think it would be a good idea. We could even make it user-submissable, too.
