standards versions?

Can a user upload a map that is compliant with a previous version of the standards? I was thinking so. Either way, we'll need to monitor that page a lot to distinguish between changes that modify vs. clarify the standard, then identify the revision(s) which define an "official" version of the standards.

I think that users should be able to submit maps that are previously compliant, but should be urger to be up to date. They should mark the maps as not standards compliant though. I was thinking when changes are made to the standards page, they could be reflected in th version number. I envisioned a version number like 1.0.1 or something simliar, just a way to keep track of changes.

One more thing I realized after updating my first map to include all the trail boundaries: can we grade the various items' (lifts, centerlines, trail boundaries, area boundary) standard compliance separately? Since I now see that it takes way longer to do the trail boundaries than any other step, I'm concerned that we will reduce the number of submissions greatly by requiring them, even though we only need them for a subset of the desired statistics. Would splitting up the standards into categories add too much complexity?

since that seems to be the biggest hurdle as far as standards goes, why don't we just place a field on the template for the area pages which asks whether or not the boundaries are mapped?
